Swedish & Deep

These are the most popular of massage practices. Soft tissue manipulation using long, gliding, rhythmic strokes. When areas of increased tension are felt, deeper pressure can be used to release the “knots”.

Neuromuscular

Similar to physical therapy. Moderate pressure is applied, moving along a muscle group from its origin to insertion attachments. The client keeps open communication about the needed pressure and changes to remain comfortable. Like other techniques, this can be uncomfortable during the session, but bring quick relief. Best for repetitive motion injuries, every day athletes, chronic pain.

Myofascial Release

The fascia is a thin band or sheet of connective tissue beneath the skin that attaches, stabilizes, and separates muscles and other internal organs. Massage movements are usually specific and short, almost rolling the skin, encouraging more movement around the muscle tissue. Little to no oils are used. Releasing trigger points can be uncomfortable during the session, but can also bring instant relief.

Trigger Point

This is usually a spasmed muscle fiber within a muscle group. It will often be painful to the touch as well as refer pain to another area of the body. (During a neck massage, a client “can feel that in my fingers”)

Thai Stretch

Some have referred to this as “lazy yoga”. The client is stretched passively, slowly, and controlled. Light pressure will also be applied when needed. The client will be clothed at all times and will need to wear flexible clothing. Traditionally practiced on a floor mat, the client will be on a massage table.

Prenatal

The body goes through dramatic changes during and after pregnancy. Using light and medium pressure, massage can ease overall tension, relieve swelling, and reduce stress. The mother-to-be will lay on her side and use a body pillow.

Sports

This specifically focuses on both preventing and treating injuries, as well as improving performance. Massage before an event warms the body and prepares it for activity. Massage after an event will help flush out lactic acid and reduce soreness.

Hypervolt

Percussion tools have recently become popular among athletes. The Hypervolt gun quickly and greatly increases blood flow and oxygen to the targeted area. Vibration can help stimulate the parasympathetic system and help the muscles relax. This technique is best when applied the day of an event (before and after) to decrease soreness, increase range of motion, and quicken recovery. These tools are meant to be used alongside massage and stretching, not in place of it.

Claire

When not working, I spend my time walking my dog in all the beautiful Austin parks, listening podcasts, and going to the movies with friends (pre-covid). Soon after receiving my BA, I met someone studying massage therapy and quickly realized I HAD to learn all about the body and how it’s “all connected” physically and emotionally.

I have been a licensed massage therapist for more than 15 years. My clientele include the office professional, busy mom & dad, marathon runner, triathlete, musician, dancer, stage actor, and everyone else imaginable. I truly enjoy teaching my clients how to best take care of their bodies.

Receiving professional body work on a regular basis can increase flexibility and circulation, lower anxiety and blood pressure, & improve mental clarity. Massage therapy is a preventative method to achieve your overall health goals.

FAQs

What precautions are you taking with COVID19? I wear a mask in public and while working. I thoroughly clean all massage tools and supplies after each session. I get tested regularly, and will happily show recent test results upon request. I ask my clients to wear a mask while face-up, during their massage.

Where are you located? I cater to those seeking convenience, by coming to you. I provide the massage table and all the supplies needed to create a peaceful setting in your home. You only need to provide the space and linens- 2 sheets and a pillow case.

Why are you referral only? For safety reasons, new clients are preferred through word-of-mouth. Some exceptions are made after a virtual consultation.

When are you available? I’m currently available anytime Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays. I’m happy to see you after your morning workout, during a long lunch break, or after you put the kids to bed.

Is tipping expected? Always appreciated, but not necessary. Also, the state of Texas does not tax on massage services.

Can you fix me? I don’t like to say I “fix”. I prefer to say I facilitate. Massage therapy is just one piece of the puzzle for treating and healing. Along with soft tissue manipulation, I teach postural changes, stretches, and can refer you to other qualified wellness professionals.

What massage oils do you use? For years, I have been using Biotone dual purpose massage cream. I have never had a client complain or have a negative allergic or sensitivity reaction. For a list of ingredients, click here: https://biotone.com/dual-purpose-massage-creme

What is a muscle knot? This term is commonly used for acute muscle tension or trigger points (bundles of tension within a muscle group)

Do I have to take off all my clothes? Undress to your level of comfort. You will be covers draped appropriately throughout the session. For Thai stretch, please wear flexible loose clothing (yoga pants and top)

What is the right amount of pressure? This depends on the desired outcome. The purpose is not to inflict pain, but to ease into the muscle just beyond mild discomfort or “productive pain”.  Each area of the body may need a different amount of pressure. Let the therapist know immediately if you want the pressure to change.

What are the benefits of massage? Beyond the most obvious answer of relaxation, massage can reduce overall muscle tension, improve circulation, stimulate the lymphatic system, increase flexibility and range of motion, improve skin tone, treat soft tissue injuries, reduce high blood pressure, and reduce insomnia.
